Mark Small

Mark Small plays tenor saxophone with the Bublé band. He is a terrific saxophonist and a brilliant composer too. His solo in the Caught In the Act DVD recording of "That's All" is outstanding.
Mark is a wonderfully kind and intuitive guy. He is a great philosopher on life and I always look forward to reading the next intallment of his blog ...
My fondest memory of seeing Mark perform was during Michael's Valentine's night concert at the Las Vegas Hilton, February, 2006 when, having played his solo during "My Funny Valentine, Mark was about to return to his seat when Michael invited him to stay at the front of the stage to "jam" as he finished the song ... the result was simply breathtaking and I was in such awe and admiration of Mark's playing that I completely forgot to clap until the applause was almost over!
Born in Norwarlk, Connecticut, Mark has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Music - Jazz Performance from the prestigious New England Conservatory, Boston, Massachussetts. A semi-finalist in the 2002 Thelonious Monk Saxophone Competition and 1st Place Winner in the 2001 East Coast Jazz Festival, Mark has also won 3rd Prize in the 2002 World Sax Competition, Montreaux - some of his performances feature on the CD and DVD recordings of the finals of the Montreux competition.
In a teaching capacity, Mark has taught at the Jazz Faculty of the Sacred Heart University, Connecticut, teaching improvisation and composition, jazz band, music in western civilization and private woodwind instruction.
During his career to date he has worked with artists such as Bruce Barth, Harold Danko, Benny Golson, Joe LaBarbara, John Mosca, Dick Oatts, Tiger Okoshi, Cladio Roditi, Ed Soph and Kenny Wheeler.
Mark features on a number of album recordings as both a performer and a composer/arranger. As part of the Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee Quintet, he wrote three tracks for the record "Previous Misconceptions" and also tracks on The Damon Grant Project's "Sonidos Nuevos", including "Descarga Pequeña" and "Mark's Tune in 6".
Mark Small is
